The
Skinny: Stark manufacturers structural glazed facing
tile (SGFT), a product many equate with the unimaginative pale green
bricks in elementary schools. The newsletter showcased unusual applications,
allowing distributors to see the possibilities available with Stark's
extensive color palette. The result? More sales opportunities..

SGFT
Provides Design Flexibility in Pennsylvania High School
School applications of SGFT have come a long way since basic green.
Not only has the color palette expanded, as Stark's school ad promotes,
but some school architects have given new meaning to its design
flexibility.
GSGSB Architects, Clarks Summit, Pa., has incorporated more than
60,000 units of SGFT in a renovation project at Upper Merion High
School, King of Prussia, Pa. But two 8' x 8' murals, designed with
SGFT, differentiate this project from a typical Stark renovation.
Bob Neuhauser, Huston Clay Products sales representative, explained
that the two graphics, a coat of arms and the school's Viking mascot,
are actually fired on to the unit as part of the ceramic surface.
"First, the tile was fired with Sahara Beige Mat," Neuhauser
explained. "The wall was then constructed at Stark with false
mortar joints. The artist performed the detailing and the tile was
re-fired with the custom deisgn."
